About Oxford Music Online
Oxford Music Online is a database of the contents of several useful books/resources:
- Grove Music Online: most important of all these resources with thousands of articles on a variety of musicians, composers and subjects. It previously was it's own database.
- Encyclopedia of popular music: a great source of information about bands, artists, etc. including discographies, bibliographies etc. Covers a variety of music genres including pop, jazz, folk, rap, techno, reggae, etc.
- Oxford dictionary of music
- Oxford companion to music
These books can all be searched at the same time individually or you can seach you for a group of several of them. Advanced search sections allow you can look at the title, the body, author, plus a great amount of different amount of great possible fields you can close to find what you need.
Boolean searching
With this database you can use AND, OR, NOT and NEAR between words to say which words you wish the item you are searching for to contain. You can also use a wildcard e.g. musi* would find for example words such as music and musician, plus questionmarks in place of letters when you are unsure of a spelling.
