Special Needs
What to do if you have concerns about your child's development
It's important to remember that all children develop at different rates. Every child will grow and learn in his or her own individual way. So your child may develop new skills at a completely different rate from other children - even siblings. There are also differences between girls and boys in the rate of their development. However, if you're concerned about any aspect of your child's health or development, you should contact your doctor or health professional.
Finding books to suit different needs
A Bookstart booklet entitled "Finding books to suit different needs" may be a good starting point. This booklet will help you to identify different types of books that might be particularly relevant to a child's specific needs. You can pick a copy up in your local library or download it from the Bookstart website.
Finding inclusive books
A Bookstart booklet entitled "Finding inclusive books" offers a list that aims to help you to find early years books showing positive images of disability, as well as titles that may prove useful in discussing disability and diversity. You can pick up a copy in your local library or download it from the Bookstart website.
