10.2 Boards and commissioners

This section includes boards and commissioners who provided services for more than one civil parish. The Strand Board of Works included the parishes of St Anne Soho, St Clement Danes, St Mary-le-Strand, St Paul Covent Garden, the Liberty of the Rolls and the Precinct of the Savoy. The Westminster Paving Commissioners originally included most of the City of Westminster in 1762, but parishes gradually withdrew from their authority and established their own committees (see Chapter10.1).

Boards and commissioners for individual parishes such as burial boards, boards of health, commissioners for baths and wash-houses and commissioners for libraries and museums are listed with the parish records in Chapter10.1. The Westminster Board of Works which only included the joint civil parish of St Margaret and St John is also listed in Chapter10.1. Other public authorities such as turnpike trustees and trustees for individual streets, squares or parts of parishes are included in Chapter 12.
