08. Baptism of 'Gustavus Vassa', St Margaret's Westminster, 1759
This was the name given to Equiano by his owner, a British sea captain. He travelled to the West Indies and then to America, before coming to England where he stayed in Westminster with two sisters who taught him to read, sent him to school and had him baptised.
