Lending service
The City of Westminster boasts 11 lending libraries. They are spread around the borough, and each has its own unique identity while beingĀ part of an integrated service. While all our libraries offer computers for public use, events and activities, these libraries' priority is to offer a vast array of books and other items for you to take away.
For more information aboutĀ each library, including addresses and opening hours, visit the links from the Find a Library page.
The resources of all Westminster libraries are available to you via the e-Library. You can renew your books and request items that are not in the library via the web or when you visit. If you are looking for books within a general subject area, then all our lending stock is sorted into categories.
What can I borrow?
We can offer you over 600,000 adult and children's books for loan (some in large print) and an excellent information service. Members can take out up to 20 books or magazines at a time, plus eight DVDs, eight CDs, eight audio books and can also download 10 e-audiobooks! Eleven Westminster Libraries have areas set aside for young people, called 'Zones'. They include fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and homework collections aimed at the 11-19 age group, all marked with an orange 'Z'. Anyone can join for free - it doesn't matter where you live in the UK - just produce proof of your address. You don't have to be a member to use the reference and information services.
Recordings and videos:
You can hire both music and spoken word compact discs and cassettes, and a wide range of DVDs, from a great selection - you'll find blockbusters, the latest hits and perennial favourites all at really competitive prices. You can also download free e-audiobooks.
Special Collections:
The special collections of Music, Art and Chinese resources all have a large number of items for loan.
