London Tigers - winners
Outstanding contribution winners, London Tigers

Since starting out in 1986 as a football club, London Tigers have grown into a cornerstone of the community delivering inclusive activities and services to 800 people from over 60 nationalities. They have a direct impact on the community by engaging hard to reach groups and creating opportunities for young people to better themselves physically and mentally.

"They have created an impact that can be felt if you walk the streets of Lisson Green Estate and speak to the families of young people, who will tell you first hand the difference they have made to the lives of their "children.

As a semi-professional club, the Tigers play at all levels, training people to compete in some of the largest international youth tournaments and leagues in the world. Innovative coaching methods increase sporting skills and the club has developed coaches to achieve some of the highest qualifications in the country. Many coaches moved on to work for professional clubs such Portugal 1st division and the national Under 17 team.

The club has become a role model for Asian football in UK due to the high profile events they organise annually in partnership with Chelsea FC. The UK Asian Community Cup and other national events including ‘The Asian Super Cup’ finals are played in professional stadiums such as Loftus Road and Stamford Bridge.

All Stars Boxing Gym - highly commended

The All Stars Youth Club, a registered charity, was founded by Mr Isola Akay in 1974. The club is dedicated to boxing whilst teaching self discipline, respect, self-worth and social and educational skills. It is a way of disengaging young people from gangs and anti-social behaviour.

Over the years, it has become an iconic community focal point. It focuses on young people aged 11 to 25 and with a team of 23 volunteers the club has trained London, regional, national and European champions and continues to increase its reputation within the boxing world.

Since opening it has gone from strength to strength and receives positive feedback from parents, teachers and the police.

Eugene Minogue, Westminster Sports Unit - highly commended

Eugene has worked for the Sports Unit for 13 years during which time he has helped young people into volunteering, training and employment and increased participation in sport amongst those who are traditionally disengaged. He has sourced funding for projects and programmes that have really made a difference to the lives of young people and the areas they live in.

He has been a mentor to many young people who are now role models themselves including those who now work in the council’s Sports Unit.

Eugene has been a frontrunner in bringing parkour to the UK and is a founding member of Parkour UK. Parkour drives young people’s involvement in sport and has led to many of them gaining coaching qualifications.
