Inclusive and Active Award

Little Venice Sports Centre - winner

The centre is located in an area of high deprivation and access and inclusion were fundamental considerations throughout the design and build of the facility. The site was the first in England to achieve IFI accreditation at excellence level for its inclusion criteria across all aspects of operations from equipment to staff training.

At just over a year old, the centre continues to work towards increasing participation amongst people who have been historically hard to reach. Programmes include Open Age sessions, Women’s only sessions, exercise referrals and pulmonary rehabilitation sessions.

Marshall Street Leisure Centre - highly commended

Marshall Street Leisure Centre recently re-opened as a modern leisure centre including

a new fully equipped gym with Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) approved equipment. There is also disabled swimming access in the main pool, accessible changing facilities and accessible health suite facilities. There is a purpose-built separate community gym with sessions aimed at people who may not usually use exercise equipment or who may need a private training area such as disabled users, obesity training support and senior and junior sessions.

Moberly Sports & Education Centre - highly commended

The Tuesday Club at Moberly provides inclusive sport and leisure for disabled people to take part in sport and keep physically active. People with varying disabilities are involved in multi-sports including football, basketball and bowls. The team is dedicated to delivering an inclusive programme of services to remove barriers to access and meet a broad range of needs. These include an exercise referral programme, women’s only activities, 50 plus activities, vocational courses and sessions for the pupil referral unit.
