Anyone can apply to Westminster Council for housing, but due to the severe shortage of available homes we cannot offer a home to most people who apply. Find out more about housing supply and demand in Westminster.
When you apply for housing, we look at your circumstances to see if you fall into one of our priority groups. The criteria for these groups are set out in the council's Allocation Scheme.
If we give you priority, we will give you points depending on your circumstances. You can then bid for a permanent property through Choice Based Lettings.
If you don't qualify for priority, unfortunately we will not offer you a home and you will not be allowed to bid through Choice Based Lettings. You will not be registered on any waiting list in these circumstances.
Please note that following recent changes to our Allocations Policy, the council no longer holds a general housing waiting list for applicants who do not qualify for housing priority. Applicants previously registered on Low Priority Group lists have had their applications closed. Anyone who feels that they do fall into one of the priority groups should re-submit a fresh application, which will be reconsidered in line with the Allocations Policy below.
