How do I get services?
The services and equipment Westminster provides are free of charge. In order to receive them, you can receive an assessment of your needs. This will be carried out by a Visual Impairment Rehabilitation Worker or a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist Worker. There is no charge for this assessment.
Do I need to be registered blind, partially sighted, deaf or hard of hearing to get help?
No. However, in order to qualify for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Registration Card which includes useful communication tips, you must be registered.
What happens in an assessment?
The assessment will be carried out in your home and will involve asking you what you can do for yourself and what you need help with. With your consent we would also like to talk to any people who help you, like friends, relatives and your doctor or nurse. We will then agree and draw up an action plan with you. This lists the training, rehabilitation and equipment that may help you.
How do I request an assessment?
There are a number of ways:
- contact us by telephone or email
- Go to your local social services office and explain the problems/difficulties you are having now.
- Go to any One Stop Services. They should be able to make a referral or speak to someone on your behalf.
- If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can be referred to social services by your audiologist for an equipment assessment.
