Tea Dance 2009

Back again this year by popular demand, the Tea Dance took place at the prestigious Grosvenor House on Park Lane, hosted by the Lord Mayor of Westminster Duncan Sandys and organised by Councillor Christabel Flight, the council's Older People's Champion.

Attended by 1,000 Westminster residents over the age of 65, it was a day of cream teas and dancing to an impressive 21-piece band represented by the four major London music schools: Trinity, Royal Academy, Guildhall and Purcell.

Guest of Honour at the event this year was comic actor Leslie Phillips CBE, known for his role in the Carry On films and more recently in Tomb Raider and Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun.

Other highlights included Pilot Officers and Aircraftsmen from the Queen's Colour, 63 Squadron RAF regiment on-hand to escort and dance with the older ladies, and a performance by children of the Sylvia Young Theatre School.

This event was generously sponsored by Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott Hotel, Balfour Beatty, and the Telegraph Media Group.
