FAQs

Can I get money from you?

No, sorry we do not give out money to people. Social Services are sometimes confused with 'social security' (or the Department of Works and Pensions (DWP) as they are now known) If you are concerned you are not getting enough money, then please contact the Westminster Benefits Advice Team on 020 7641 8977. The team will visit you to do a benefits check.

Alternatively, If you are over 60: Age Concern Westminster 23-23 Praed Street , London W2 1NJ Tel 020 3004-5610. Visit their web site for details of their drop in sessions.

I would like someone to do my shopping, laundry or cleaning for me.

We may be able to assist if there is a reason that you are no longer able to do these tasks for yourself - either in the short term following a hospital admission perhaps or a longer term illness. You will be assessed by the care management team to see if we can help you.

Will I be charged for any services provided to me?
You will not be charged for the assessment. You may be charged for services you receive. We will complete a financial assessment based on your income and savings. As a general rule, if you are in receipt of income support/have savings under £23,250 then you will not be charged. Please see 'charging check' to give you an indication:

Can you help me get information about residential homes for me/my relative?

If you or a relative wants to go into a residential or nursing home and wants financial assistance and advice from us, they may need to have an assessment. If you can afford to pay for this yourself, then Counsel and Care will be able to offer you more appropriate guidance

I'd like to have a go at learning how to use a computer. Where can I do computer classes?

There are currently a series of computer classes specifically for older learners being run in Westminster, known as Seniors Online. A lot of the classes are in libraries, but some are in other settings. Ring Senior Passport on 020 7641 1444 for details of the nearest one to you and to register your interest. We have had really good feedback from learners about the classes.

I'm not happy with where I live, I need to move house.

If you want to move to different accommodation because of your age, situation, or because your property isn't suitable for you, contact Housing Options to discuss what you can do.
