Home Meals

What are they?

The Westminster Home Meals service offers a hot meal, served 7 days a week if necessary, to those who are unable or find it difficult to prepare one for themselves and have no one to help them. They are delivered to your home hot and ready to eat. Special meals are available to meet dietary or cultural needs -e.g. low fat, diabetic, Kosher, Halal, African-Caribbean. You choose from a menu of available diets and let the staff know what is suitable. You don't have to have the meals every day of the week, just as you need them.

Alternatively, if you prefer, a set of frozen meals can be delivered on a weekly basis for you to heat up on your own. This allows you to heat the meals at a time to suit you.

For more information on this, please see our leaflet

How do I get them?

You should speak to the care management team that covers your area. They will talk to you about your needs and assess whether you are eligible. They will ask about any special dietary or cultural needs that you may have. They will also ask whether you have anyone they can contact in an emergency in case there is no answer when the Home Meals Service calls. You will then be contacted by Sodexho, who operate the service, to discuss your meal preferences and arrangements for delivery.

More information on assessments

If you are not eligible for the meals service through Social Services, you may decide to purchase the meals independently yourself. You can do this, either hot or frozen (minimum order 5 meals weekly for frozen meals) by contacting the Home Meals Service directly. Tel: 020 7402 0785

Who do I contact?

If you wish to be assessed for the Home Meals Service, you should call us on 020 7641 1175

If you wish to purchase the Meals privately, you can contact the Home Meals Service on 020 7402-0785.

Is there a charge?

Yes, there is a subsidised charge for the meals provision through Social Services. This is currently £2.25 for a 2-course hot meal, or for the frozen meals.

If you do not want to be assessed or are not eligible for this service, there is a private service available. The cost is currently over £3 for a frozen meal (minimum delivery of 5 per week) and varies depending on the menu you choose; or £3.95 for a hot meal (£5.95 for a kosher meal) with a safety check option. This means that the drivers will contact a nominated person if they don't get a reply from you or find that you are unwell.
