Westminster's streets are regularly swept and washed to maintain a high standard of cleanliness across the city 24-7.

Changes to Street Cleansing

Keeping our streets clean and safe is a priority. But in the current economic climate, we have had to make some savings as our funding from the government is reduced. We have sought to minimise the impact of those savings on the front line.

While we have been able to protect services in cleansing such as street litter bins, domestic waste and recycling collections and Big Black Bins, we have had to make some changes to the street sweeping schedules mainly in residential streets at weekends.

Changes to weekend sweeping were introduced at the start of June 2011. The remaining changes to some daytime, evening and night-time street sweeping, and to the flushing service, agreed in the Cabinet Member Report, were rolled out in July and during August 2011.
