Recycling

Mixed recycling
Westminster's recycling services can offer you a tailored, easy to use, cost effective and green solution to your waste collection needs. We offer a range of services and our mixed recycling service is cost effective and popular.
- Order some Westminster blue pre paid recycling bags and put all your mixed recycling in one bag. The icons show what you can place in the bag.
- When we collect your pre paid bags we separate the recycling materials for you and ensure they are recycled into various items, from new drinks cans to glass based road surfacing material.
What can be recycled?
The following materials can placed in the blue recycling bags:
- paper
- cardboard
- plastic bottles
- plastic pots, trays and tubs
- metal cans & tins
- glass packaging
- Tetra packs
In order to preserve space and maintain hygiene please rinse and squash packaging as appropriate.
What cannot be recycled.

Putting the wrong materials into the recycling can cause whole loads to be rejected. These rejected loads will then have to be disposed of as general waste; a waste of time, money and resources. Please only recycle the materials listed above. The most common contaminants found in recycling loads are black bags, food waste, sanitary waste, hazardous waste such as batteries and paint, bulky items and electrical appliances. If you are unsure if it can be recycled why not ask us? More information is also available here.
Separated recycling services
For those businesses with lots to recycle Westminster can provide you with:
- Separate recycling bins - paper/cardboard and mixed glass
- Cardboard tapes - these can be fixed on a bundle of up to 15 flattened boxes
Approximately 40% of the waste produced by most restaurants and bars is glass bottles that can be easily recycled. There is no need to sort out the green bottles from the brown bottles etc, they can all be mixed together in one bin.
