What can I recycle at home?

Cartons recycling
NEW! Cartons

You can now recycle all wax-lined, plastic-lined and foil lined cartons, including milk cartons and Tetra Pak, in your household recycling.

Plastic bottles, pots, tubs & trays

Yes please:
  • plastic milk bottles
  • juice or drink bottles
  • shampoo/shower gel bottles
  • household cleaner and detergent bottles
  • yoghurt pots
  • margarine tubs
  • plastic bottles, pots, tubs & trays 150
    ice-cream tubs
  • plastic food trays and fruit punnets
  • plastic cups
  • plastic lids

Please rinse and squash before recycling.

No thanks:
  • food or drink waste
  • carrier bags
  • film or clingfilm
  • crisp packets or sweet wrappers
  • polystyrene packing or beads
  • bubble wrap
  • rigid plastics (toys, CDs/DVDs or cases etc)
  • engine oil containers
  • hazardous chemical container

Please note recycling bags and bins are in the process of being updated. All residents can recycle plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays in any bags or container still marked "plastic bottles".

  • mixed paper (white and coloured)
  • catalogues and brochures
  • yellow Pages and other telephone directories
  • junk mail and envelopes (including windows)
  • brown (corrugated) cardboard boxes
  • white card e.g. cereal boxes, greeting cards, ready meal sleeves
  • small amounts of shredded paper
No thanks

  • metallic wrapping paper

You can recycle your books at selected micro recycling centres.

  • glass bottles, any colour
  • glass jars, any colour

Please rinse out all bottles/jars, remove the lids and add both to your mixed recycling.

  • drinking glasses

These materials are hazardous to the crews and staff at the Materials Recovery Facility.

Yes please
  • Food cans/tins
  • Drink cans/tins
  • Pet food cans/tins
  • Aerosol cans (ensure they're empty and DO NOT squash)
  • Aluminium foil (washed an scrunched into a ball)

Please rinse out all residues and squash the cans/tins if possible (except aerosols).
