Performance & Strategy

Another successful year

Westminster's recycling rate increased again in 2010/11, to 25%. Thank you to all Westminster residents who have started recycling, or are recycling more of their waste.

The graph below shows how the recycling rate has changed in the last 10 years.

Current strategy

We are working to make it easier to recycle in Westminster and are currently focussing on the following key areas:

  • Development of the furniture reuse service.
  • Roll out of litter recycling bins across the City.
  • Reducing the carbon footprint of the service.
  • Improving the blue bag delivery service.
  • Better communications and engagement with low-performing estates and mansion blocks.

Our strategy will be reviewed in light of the Government's Waste Review 2011 which covered areas such as new incentive schemes, working with industry and waste prevention.
