2. I'm a keen recycler. How do I get extra recycling bags or containers?
Answer: It's easy to get more bags and containers. Either call us on 020 7641 2000 or contact us online.
If you live in a portered block please ask your porter if they keep a supply of recycling bags.
If you live on an estate, visit your estate office and they will be able to give you another reusable bag.
Extra bags and baskets will be delivered to your door within ten working days.
3. I really want to start recycling but I think the service in my block should improve.

4. My recycling wasn't picked up today - why?
Answer: There are a number of reasons why your recycling may not have been collected:
- Your recycling was put out late
- There was something in your recycling which cannot be recycled
- Your recycling was not placed where our collection team could see it or
- The vehicle couldn't get down your street today.

5. Where's my nearest micro-recycling centre?
Answer: There are 137 micro recycling centres in Westminster. Find out what you can recycle and where they are here.
6. I throw away loads of plastic - why can't I recycle all of it?
You can now recycle all plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays. You don’t need to check the plastic type – as long as it’s a bottle, pot, tub or tray (or their lids), we’ll take it.
Plastic containers can be sold on to be recycled into new products, whereas market demand for other plastics remains insecure. Lightweight plastic films and packets cannot be easily separated from paper at the materials recovery facility and can therefore damage the paper recycling machinery.
7. Can I recycle my old mobile phone?
Answer: Yes, you can. As with all electrical and electronic equipment, your phone and charger contain metals such as copper, aluminium and gold which can all be recycled.
When you buy a new phone, the retailer should take back your old one; ask your retailer for details. Otherwise there are various ways you can recycle your phone.

9. Can I recycle cartons / Tetra-paks?
Answer: There are thirteen carton recycling bins across Westminster and cartons are accepted at the Mobile Recycling Centre. Please do not place the cartons in your mixed recycling. Click here for details of where you can recycle your cartons.
10. Can I recycle garden waste?
Answer: Using a compost bin or heap is the best option for the environment and your garden. You can also compost kitchen waste such as fruit and vegetable peelings as well as garden waste. Westminster residents are entitled to a discount on new compost bins. Click here for more details.
