Household bulky waste

Westminster City Council encourages our residents to reduce the amount of waste they produce, reuse items where possible and also to recycle their waste by using the Council's on street recycling facilities such as the small electrical appliance bins, clothes and shoes bins and the book recycling bins. Residents can also visit reuse and recycling centre at Smugglers Way in Wandsworth and dispose of larger items for free. Please visit the WRWA website for more information.

What we can collect?

Bulky Waste Collection

We can collect up to 10 large bulky household items as long as they can be lifted by two men and where access allows. We will collect from upper floors of a property but if you can bring it to ground level off the street that is preferred. Items collected include:

  • Fridges
  • Cookers
  • Beds - Mattresses, Bedframes
  • Sofas
  • Tables
  • Wardrobes
  • Washing Machines
  • Other large Electrical Items & Furniture

Items not collected

This service is not able to take builders waste hazardous and clinical waste. If you have builders waste we advise that the contractor carrying out the works removes this waste. Small amounts DIY waste can be taken to Smugglers Way but for larger quantities you will need to contact a private waste contractor or you could search online for skip bags which are a cheaper and smaller scale alternative to skip hire.

Further information of methods of disposal for hazardous waste is available on the hazardous waste page. If you are a business then details on commercial bulky waste collections can be found here.

Cost

There is a charge of £20 for this service, payable by debit or credit card, For those people who are currently receiving Housing or Council Tax Benefit the service is free. However, no more than 10 items can be collected for free in any 30 day period.
