City of Westminster

Air Quality Management

Westminster City Council has been working to assess and improve air quality within the borough and has been monitoring concentrations of air pollution at sites across the City since the late 1980’s.  There are national ‘Air Quality Objectives’ which set a maximum level for a number of different pollutants and in some areas of the borough some of these objectives are exceeded.  Because of these areas where pollution is higher, the whole of the City of Westminster is declared an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA).  The Council also has its own ‘Westminster Air Quality Action Plan’ which include actions and measures to reduce pollution and improve air quality in Westminster.
