Pollution in Westminster

Your right to an improving environment

Westminster City Council continuously strives to improve our urban environment.

Emissions from transport and buildings adversely affect air quality. Noise from the same sources and human activity can cause annoyance and stress. Water is an essential medium  for life on the Earth and yet it is easily polluted. Land has suffered in the past from contamination from industry and commercial use and has to be remediated where the opportunity arises. Even excessive or inappropriate artificial light has become a statutory nuisance.

Westminster City Council and many other organisations have responsibilities to control all forms of pollution and these pages will endeavour to link our work with that of theirs to create a clean and green city for all of us to enjoy and thrive in. The Environmental Sciences Team, Noise Team, Health and Safety Team and City Planning and Development Teams all strive towards this aim.
