City of Westminster

Public Art

The Family Statue

The City of Westminster is fortunate to boast a fantastic collection of contemporary art in the public realm.

Public art brings a wide range of benefits to the whole community, from the economic benefits that high quality art brings to the developer, to the educational oppotunities inherent both in the creation of and refection upon public art. Art can help in the process of regeneration, fostering social inclusion and community involvement. Public art also contributes to the unique and distinctive streetscape of Westminster.

There are also a large number of historic statues and monuments in the City, many of which are listed. Westminster has recently produced a new supplementary planning document (SPD) to provide guidance on proposals for new statues and memorials.

Westminster is currently working with leading artists, galleries and landowners to turn Westminster's public realm into a giant open air gallery as part of the City of Sculpture festival.
