Victoria Area Schemes and Proposals

Over the next 5 - 10 years there are a number of emerging proposals for major developments in the Victoria area.

Victoria Overland Railway Station

Network Rail, who own the main line station, are currently continuing a masterplan process for the Victoria Station complex.  Two of their key objectives for development at the station are to relieve congestion, and to improve the connectivity of the station and its facilities with the surrounding areas.  They have recently completed improvements to the front of the station, and a new pedestrian access point into the Station is to be provided from Wilton Road through the archway previously occupied by Boots.

Victoria Underground Station Upgrade (VSU)

In August 2009, the Secretary of State for Transport granted Transport for London (TfL) planning permission for the redevelopment of Victoria Underground station.  The principle objective of this scheme, known as the Victoria Station Upgrade (VSU) is to increase capacity of the underground station, and improve passenger flows between it, the National Rail station, and street level.

There will be a new northern ticket hall provided at the junction of Bressenden Place and Victoria Street, and the existing southern ticket hall will be enlarged with new escalators and lifts.

The 'Approval of Details' Application provides some additional information relating to the construction works/dates associated with this scheme.  You can find this by searching for application number 11/00994/ADFULL on http://idoxpa.westminster.gov.uk/online-applications/.  The original planning application is available on TfL's website: Victoria Underground Station application.  A lot of the road works going on in Victoria Street have been in relation to the VSU works.

Victoria Circle (formerly known as the 'VTI2' Scheme)

In  February 2009, the Council granted conditional approval to the Land Securities development scheme known as 'VTI2'.  Now knows as Victoria Circle, this provides for the comprehensive redevelopment and regeneration of a 2.5 hectare site bounded by Victoria Street, Buckingham Palace Road, Bressenden Place and Allington Street, and will incorporate a new station entrance, as part of the VSU scheme.  This scheme will be constructed in 3 phases to allow for completion of the VSU works.  Work on the scheme is likely to commence in Autumn 2012.
