Impact on the City

How will the Crossrail project impact the City?

In City of Westminster, there are 18 working sites in total. Crossrail will deliver new stations at Paddington, Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road. There will be a portal at Royal Oak Common.

Crossrail have confirmed that proposed shafts at Westbourne Park W2, Hyde Park W2 and Park Lane W1 will no longer be required as emergency measures within the tunnels have been agreed by the London Fire Brigade and Her Majesty’s Railway Inspectors.

For Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road, two different stages of works will be undertaken by London Underground and Crossrail as Nominated Undertakers (appointed constructor). London Underground will complete upgrades to the underground stations before Crossrail Ltd deliver the new Crossrail network.

Crossrail and London Underground have issued Context Reports which provide an overview of the Crossrail works that will take place within the City. They present an explanation of the work and an indicative programme for making of requests for approval under Schedule 7 of the Crossrail Act 2008. They also provided a high level description of highways and traffic related work within the City.

It is important to note that the Context Reports need to be read in conjunction for Bond Street and Tottenham Court Road.

For more information on the next stages of the Crossrail project and Crossrail's community relations programme, please contact Gareth Epps, Community Relations Manager of Crossrail Ltd.
