Code of Construction Practice
Westminster, being a vibrant City, is subject to continuous sustained development activity. The renewal and upgrading of the built environment is actively welcomed, but a balance needs to be achieved through mitigation to safeguard the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors to the City during construction works. It is for this reason that the City Council operates a Code of Construction Practice, (CoCP), to monitor, control, manage and enforce its statutory duties for major development sites and infrastructure projects. The City Council has operated a CoCP since 1997. This third revision of the CoCP is dated April 2008.
What is the CoCP?
The CoCP sets out the standards and procedures to which a Developer or Contractor must adhere to when undertaking construction of major projects thus managing the environmental impacts. It also identifies the main responsibilities and requirements of Developers and Contractors in constructing their projects.
When does it apply?
The CoCP is applicable, by legal agreement, to all major development and infrastructure projects in the City of Westminster that have the potential to cause environmental impacts. The Developers of major projects within Westminster must comply with the CoCP, and must ensure that their Contractors and Sub-Contractors also comply with it.
