Energy Efficiency
There are many ways that Westminster Council can help schools become more energy efficient – a main focus for sustainable and Eco-Schools:
In September 2009 we launched the Westminster Energy Efficiency Programme for Schools in partnership with npower and EDF energy. Ten schools will be selected to participate in this programme based on the amount of energy their schools consume – as rated by the Display Energy Certificate (DEC). Once selected, these schools will receive energy efficiency support from these organisations throughout the academic year. We also hope to extend the programme to more schools in 2010.
As part of the Westminster Energy Efficiency Programme schools will have the opportunity to participate in:
EDF’s ‘The Pod’ programme, which helps schools be more sustainable. This is designed for Key Stage 2 and 3 pupils and provides free practical activities and lesson plans to reduce energy consumption and assist schools with Eco-Schools programme targets.
Npower’s Climate Cops initiative, which also helps to schools who want to be more sustainable. This programme shows young people how to take a lead in being greener at home and school.
Of course, we want to make sure that all schools have a chance to improve their energy efficiency by reducing their CO2 emissions! This is why we will be offering FREE resources to help schools achieve these goals.
