Eco-Schools Programme
The Eco-Schools initiative is an international environmental award programme. Currently operating in 40 countries, it provides a simple system that enables schools to analyse their operations and become more sustainable. A key element of this programme is the involvement of pupils in the whole process including: monitoring, creating action plans, and decision making. This helps create ownership of the programmes while increasing the pupils’ sense of responsibility to the environment and the local area.
As part of the Eco-Schools programme schools have the opportunity to gain recognition for their work by achieving an increasingly higher level of award from Bronze and Silver, culminating in the prestigious Green Flag – a flag that schools can fly proudly over their building for up to two years.
