Textile Competition

Winning entry from St. Peter's

This summer, pupils were asked to create a collaborative piece of environmental art, or an environmental message, using unwanted textiles and clothing collected at school.

After registering, pupills were encouraged to collect unwanted textiles using bags provided by the council.  As part of Recycling Week (22nd - 28th June 2010) pupils then used these textiles to create their eco-masterpiece for the competition.

The winning school received a Theatre in Education experience worth £200, as well as £100 to spend on an environmental project of their choice!!

Winners

The panel of judges chose St. Peter's CE Primary School entry (pictured above) as the winner of this competition.  All the students of this school did an excellent job of showing how much they love their planet by creating an eco-masterpiece with the textiles they collected.

The entries from Hallfield Juniors (Y4)and Our Lady of Dolour's RC Primary (KS1) received a high commendation from the judges for the positive environmental messages incorporated into their artwork.  These entries can be viewed by clicking here.

Over the winter we held a Nest Box design competition for Westminster primary schools. Pupils were asked to design a Nest Box for birds, bats or bees to raise awareness of the diverse range of species in the borough and the need to conserve and protect them. There were so many fantastic entries that we decided to award two schools with joint first place, winning £100 each to spend on an environmental project in school and the winning pupils each received a Westminster Sustainable Schools goody pack. The results were as follows:
