What the Council is Doing to Save Water

Westminster City Council has cut the amount of water we use.  Under our voluntary water conservation plan, the council now saves nearly 5 million litres of water a month with the following water saving measures:

  • Stopped all but manual watering of its parks and gardens - saving 2.3 million litres each month

  • Changed from flushing the streets 5 days a week to 3 days throughout the borough - saving 1.2 million litres of water each month

  • Uses more water water-efficient equipment for street washing without compromising on standards or frequency - saving approximately 1.5 litres every month.

In the future we will be investigating using more boreholes in council parks for irrigation and continuing to reduce the amount of water used in street cleaning operations.
