Energy saving tips

You can help reduce the impact of climate change by using energy more efficiently in your home. This will not only cut back on fuel bills, but will also reduce your carbon footprint. Even simple things like turning the central heating thermostat down a degree or two, or insulating the loft can help.

Here are some more simple suggestions that can help reduce energy consumption in the home:

  • Keep doors and windows closed
  • Use draught excluders on your doors
  • Fit time switches and thermostats as low as comfortable
  • Use low energy light bulbs
  • Keep curtains closed - but don't block up air vents
  • Switch off lights when rooms are not in use
  • Wash most clothes at 30 degrees
  • Switch off electrical appliances - don't leave them on standby
  • Consider purchasing electricity from a renewable source.
  • Be energy efficient in the work place - switch off your computer, monitor and printer at night
  • Buy A rated energy efficient electrical appliances such as fridges, freezers, cookers
