Rubbish

Rubbish consists of the food leftovers, containers and packaging used and discarded in everyday life. Rubbish can contaminate food and can also attract pests into a food premises.

Every premises should make adequate provision for the storage and collection of food waste and other rubbish to ensure that it is disposed of in an appropriate manner. Where possible items which can be recycled should removed from the rest of the rubbish so they can be sent to a reycling centre in order to protect and improve the environment.

Rubbish bins indoors should be emptied regularly so that rubbish is not left inside food premises overnight. It should be taken outside to a refuse container with a tight fitting lid. Rubbish should not be left lying around outside because it could attract pests. Always wash your hands after handling refuse and waste food.
