Mice

Mice, rats and their parasites transmit dozens of diseases to humans, several pose serious health risks and some are potentially epidemic.

Important hygiene measures include the following:

  • Clean up and remove all mice droppings where found throughout the premises;
  • Block all holes/gaps found in the premises with a suitable material to stop mice getting into the premises. You may need to extend this to the entire premises;
  • Remove any defunct items from the premises as these may provide harbourage for mice;
  • Ensure that, where practicable, food items are stored in suitably lidded containers to prevent mice from contaminating them;
  • Ensure that food equipment and food preparation areas are thoroughly cleaned with anti-bacterial spray prior to use;
  • Employ the services of a competent person to visit and treat the premises for mice. You can also ask them for advice concerning pest proofing;
  • Regularly check for evidence of mice in the premises prior to commencing food preparation
  • Continue to repeat the above steps as necessary.
