Good Hygiene Practices

Good hygiene practices for people handling food.

Always wash your hands thoroughly for at least 1 minute with warm water and soap after:

  • Handling raw meat and poultry;
  • A break;
  • Using the toilet;
  • Handling rubbish;
  • Before starting work;
  • Smoking, eating and drinking;
  • Touching your face, nose or hair.
  • Thoroughly dry your hands after you have washed them.

Good hygiene practices in the work place:

  • Do not handle any food if you are suffering from vomiting or diarrhoea, inform your employer immediately;
  • Inform your employer if anyone in your household is suffering form similar symptoms;
  • Refrain from eating, chewing gum, spiting and smoking whilst your are handling food;
  • Use brightly coloured waterproof plasters if you have any cuts or grazes.
