Defrosting

Defrosting is a process of ice removal, which is performed periodically on refrigerators and freezers to maintain their operating efficiency.

Defrosting (or thawing) of food is reversing of the freezing process. Thawing of food in ambient temperature or hot water (in the Danger Zone) may result in food borne illness (food poisoning). The safest way of defrosting food is in refrigerator. When food needs to be cooked in short time, the thawing process can be accelerated in microwave or by sumerging packed food in cold water.

Food should never been frozen again after defrosting.
