Energy grants
There are several energy grants available, all with different eligibility criteria, depending on the applicants circumstances and housing tenure. Most grants are only open to owner occupiers and tenants renting from a private landlord. In most cases Westminster Council recommend applying for the Westminster Energy Grant, as it has the widest eligibility criteria and range of measures available.

Westminster Energy Grant offers heating, insulation and ventilation measures if you are claming a qualifying benefit or are on a low income and are a private tenant or owner-occupier. (Housing association tenants living in a home owned by a private landlord and shared ownership tenants, might also be eligible). Please view the Energy Grants page for more information.

Westminster Emergency Heating Assistance provides grants to those suffering from a lack of space heating or hot water provision between October and the end of March. Assistance is only available to those aged 60 or over or to the parent/guardian of a child under 16. The recipient must also be an owner-occupier or private tenant with a full repairing obligation and be in receipt of a qualifying benefit. Call 020 7641 6161 for assistance and information.

Utility Company Grants are available from the major utility companies towards loft and cavity wall insulation. For those over 70 or in receipt of a qualifying benefit, the grant is normally 100%. For those under 70 and not claiming any benefits, discounts are still available and most should only have to pay around £100 for loft or £150 for cavity wall insulation. This equates to a discount of around 75% off the normal price. Ask your utility company if they have any exclusive deals.
