Fuel switching
The gas and electricity watchdog Energywatch has been replaced by Consumer Focus. The new consumer body Consumer Focus offers advice regarding energy supply issues such as changing supplier and managing your bills. Help is also offered to vulnerable consumers, including those threatened with disconnection. To find out more contact Consumer Focus on 08454 040506 or visit their website.
Switching to a different energy supplier could help you reduce the cost of your fuel bills. If you are worried about keeping warm and well this winter following recent fuel price increases then one way of keeping bills down is to change your electricity and gas supplier.
The best deal will depend on your personal circumstances. For example if you have never switched supplier previously or you switch to monthly direct debit payments you may be able to save £100 or more. If you have already switched in the past this saving will probably be less but you may still think it worthwhile. Please also note that many utilities provide a lower cost social tariff aimed at their lower income customers. Contact your energy supplier for more information about social tariffs.
Seek independent advice prior to switching fuel supplier to ensure that you find a deal that is right for you. There are currently several independent fuel switching services accredited by Consumer Focus' confidence code. A full list of accredited schemes are displayed on the Consumer Focus website.
