Theatre in Education and other external resources: PSHEE themes
There are a range of independent providers of PSHE related Theatre in Education. Westminster City council is not able to actively endorse individual programmes but is able to identify some of them so that schools can make an informed choice in terms of selection.
Life. Live it. Building a generation of life-savers – for information
The British Red Cross is offering free CPD and resources to help teachers deliver the basic first aid component of the PSHE curriculum, statutory from 2011. This CPD aims to give teachers the confidence to teach basic first aid including decision-making, risk assessment and the recovery position, using Life. Live it. First aid resources.
Our Life. Live it. First aid education kit was designed in consultation with teachers and education experts and provides an easy to use and flexible resource for teachers. It’s been specially designed to enable all teachers to feel confident in delivering first aid education, even those unfamiliar with the subject. The CPD can be based on the full Life. Live it. kit costing £135, or on our free resources.
The full Life. Live it. First aid education kit includes an interactive CD-ROM containing 10 flexible lesson plans with adaptable PowerPoint presentations, schemes of work, worksheets, video and audio clips, and a music-festival themed interactive quiz. The kit also includes practical materials for students to roll up their sleeves and practice including a CPR manikin, bandages, slings and posters.

National Sun Awareness Week approaching on 3rd May 2010, National Schools Partnership can provide your school with everything you need to help educate your pupils and their parents on the importance of sun protection. This will help you deliver on PSHE and ‘National Healthy School Programme' initiatives. These resources can also be used at any time during the summer term.
For the fourth year running these important resources are being provided free by National Schools Partnership and Garnier Ambre Solaire. They have been developed by teaching specialists with the support of the British Skin Foundation, the charity for healthy skin.
Each school Sun Protection week pack contains:
- NEW ‘Passports to the Sun’ for every pupil in Years 1-4
- NEW exciting ‘Hot Hats’ competition with great prizes for pupils, families and schools including a family holiday in the sun, fun ‘Games Goody box’ and a sun protection gazebo for the winning school
- NEW Sun Safety Squad resources for School Councils
- NEW Printed leaflets for every child to take home to parents providing useful sun protection information

New TIE Play about Smoking. The play, entitled "How Cool Is That?" is mainly aimed at preventing children from becoming smokers, whether they have never touched a cigarette, or have got to the stage where they have tried the odd one but can still take it or leave it, though it would still have relevance to those who have graduated to becoming more regular smokers. Key stage 3 and 4 Workshops
JustDifferent is a local charity which delivers free, innovative and educational workshops to young people designed and delivered by young disabled adults to challenge outdated social attitudes towards disability and difference. The workshops are offered free of charge with a suggested donation of £50.00 a day (assembly/3 workshops/90young people).

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is delighted to offer all UK primary schools a Free Mayday Action Pack suitable for creative, cross-curricular teaching of 9-11 year olds. The pack includes:
- An interactive CD-Rom suitable for whiteboard use
- Information and activity cards for children
- Teachers’ notes
The Mayday Action Pack:
- Encourages creativity and interest in teaching children about safety and dangers in and around the sea and beach
- Helps teach children about what to do and who to call for help in an emergency
- Is a great resource for use in both creative and cross-curriculum activities, especially for schools running ‘Seaside’ topics and themes
- Can be used by children on their own, in small groups or as part of a whole-class exercise

Anti-bullying project from the Chinwag theatre
To tie in with National Anti-Bullying Week, Chinwag Theatre is offering primary schools its 90 minute interactive Anti-Bullying theatre workshop for Key Stage 2. The workshop explores the issue of bullying in school and helps pupils to:
- Develop Effective responses to bullying
- Practice peer support
- Explore their behaviour in the context of a safe, entertaining drama session.

New anti-homophobic bullying film called ‘FIT’ from Stonewall is being sent to every secondary school in England, Scotland and Wales. FIT is supported by DCSF and NASUWT and will provide some of the help, resources and training that teachers have been desperate for to combat the problem of homophobic bullying.
The film has been especially created for Key Stage 3 and 4 students, and specifically complements various learning objectives from the National Curriculum, particularly PSHE, Citizenship, Performing Arts and English. There are a range of independent providers of PSHE related Theatre in Education. Westminster City council is not able to actively endorse individual programmes but is able to identify some of them so that schools can make an informed choice in terms of selection.
PhunkyFoods is a programme designed to teach primary school children key healthy eating and physical activity messages through art, drama, music, play and hands-on food experience. PhunkyFoods is now in its 5th year with over 600 primary and special schools on the programme.
- New after schools club and early years programme as part of the PhunkyFoods package
- The programme comes with all resources including blenders, food modules, interactive whiteboard DVDs, Games and much more
- Online training in nutrition for the whole school
- Optional face to face training and CPD in the form of City and Guilds level 2 (funding available)
