About us
Maida Vale Children's Centre is a bright, new, modern building for parents and carers with children under the age of five. We specialise in daily drop-in play sessions.
Other services and facilities include:
- Health advice and developmental checks from our Community Health Nurses
- Ante-natal, breastfeeding and new baby sessions
- Story time sessions run by the local library
- English classes, Literacy with Computers classes (both with a crèche) delivered by Westminster Adult Education Service
- Housing and benefits advice sessions
- Employment and training advice sessions
- Speech and Language therapy sessions
- Childcare Development Officer led activities
- Fathers Development Worker presence in drop-ins and workshops
- Familiy Information Service Officer at drop-ins
- Parents Forum meetings and activities

Early Birds Music:
As part of our Monday stay & play drop-in, we are including 5 music sessions during January and February 2011. There is no need to book. Please see the poster (below) for exact dates and contact the Maida Vale Children's Centre with any questions.
Sparkle Time North East
Sparkle Time, is a new stay & play drop-in for children (under the age of 5) with disabilities / addtional needs and their families. The programme starts on Thursday 9th September 2010, 9.30am-11.30am and is available to all Westminster families. Families are welcome to drop in at any time, and are welcome to stay for the whole session. There will be opportunities for messy play, creative play, music, sing along signs, and a place to relax, meet other people and have fun together. Baby Massage
A baby massage programme is being scheduled for the New Year...please watch this space for confirmation of dates...!

Healthy Start Vitamins:
In January 2011, Maida Vale Children's Centre will become a Healthy Start vitamins distribution point. Healthy Start is a UK wide initiative to help improve the health of pregnant women and families.
Who qualifies?
Women more than 10 weeks pregnant and families with children under the age of 4 receiving:
- Income support or
- Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance or
- Child Tax Credit AND an annual family income of £16,190 or less in 2010/11
- Under 18
You will need to complete an application form. Please contact the children's centre if you need help with this. The application is available to download from: www.healthystart.nhs.uk or alternatively please pick up a form at Maida Vale Children's Centre. In order to confirm that you are pregnant and/or have children under the age of 4, your Midwife or Health Visitor will need to complete part B of the form.
Mini-KickStart for Maida Vale:
Mini-KickStart is a new FREE Healthy Lifestyle Programme for 2-5 year olds that is currently running in the Westminster Borough. It is run weekly ovber 6 weeks and is for families with children agred between 2 - 5 years who want to learn about nutrition and play activities to help keep the family fit for life. The sessions are run by qualified dieticians, nutritionists and child play experts. Each session lasts for up to an hour and will be divided into:
- Games and activities for kids incorporating healthy eating messages
- Education to the parents including healthy food choices, portion sizes, reading labels and how to manage fussy eaters
- Behavioural change techniques to help sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Mini - KickStart is available to those families living within the borough of Westminster or alternatively whose children are attending school in the borough.
