Changes to Westminster Children's Centres 2011

Changes to Westminster Children’s Centres

Westminster City Council runs 12 Sure Start Children’s Centres throughout the city, offering families with children under five years old access to information and services including early education and childcare, child and family health services, family support – including help with parenting skills, help for parents to get back into employment and outreach service.

As you may have heard in the media, central government funding for Sure Start Children’s Centres nationally has been reduced, which means in Westminster we have to save 17% from our Children’s centre budget for 2011-12.  This, combined with other financial restraints on the council, means that some changes to the provision in Westminster will need to be made.

We consulted with parents until Friday 18th March 2011 on the proposed new model for Westminster Children's Centres. You can find a copy of the consultation document below.

Below is our response to the consultation we undertook with parents, including a summary of what we asked, what parents told us, and what we intend to do as a result of this information.

Update June 2011

You can find here an update for parents, drafted as a result of meeting with parents where you told us you wanted more detailed information.
