The Lord Mayor's Charities
During her year of office, the Lord Mayor is supporting four charities:
Veterans Aid
Is a local charity based in the south of the City providing a raft of services - including walk-in assistance - for ex-service personnel who have fallen on difficult times. It has been quietly helping homeless ex-Servicemen since 1932 and is very much a key 'accident & emergency unit' for veterans in crisis from all over the country - often preventing them ending up on the streets of Westminster. It takes nearly 2000 calls for help and provides over 20,000 nights of shelter each year.

The Mayhew Animal Home
Established in 1886, the Mayhew is one of London's busiest and most effective animal welfare organisations. The charity operates a rescue and re-homing service for domestic pets, alongside an onsite Community Veterinary Clinic offering free and low-cost veterinary provision for the general public. The Mayhew is at the forefront of dealing with issues confronting animal welfare in an urban environment. A range of Community Animal Care programmes, targeted at Westminster residents, aim to give advice and assistance to owners, whatever their circumstances.

Kidscape
The award-winning charity based in Victoria, known for its work in keeping children from harm. Its mission is to help ensure that children live in a safe and nurturing environment, and that adults assist in every way to help them reach their full potential. The focus of the work is on tackling bullying in schools, including cyber bullying, and internet grooming. The charity is also developing an initiative specifically designed to support Young Carers in Westminster. Together we are fundraising for our hard working young carers so we can take them on holiday.

Eaves
A London-based charity that provides housing and high-quality holistic support to vulnerable women. Eaves aims to give a voice to the most excluded women in society and provides direct, innovative services to support and empower women to help themselves. Their project-based work includes The Poppy Project that provides safe houses and support for women who have been trafficked for sex or domestic servitude; and refuges based in Westminster for women who have experienced domestic violence. Eaves also carries out research, advocacy, and campaigning to prevent all forms of violence against women.
Unit 2.03, Canterbury Court, 1-3 Brixton Road, London, SW9 6DE (Reg. No. 275048)
In addition to the above initiatives for which the Lord Mayor is fundraising personally during her year, she is also Chairman of the CITY OF WESTMINSTER CHARITABLE TRUST. This registered charity (No. 296091) makes small grants to locally based voluntary organisations and charities providing services for residents of the City.
This charity is administered by the Committee Secretariat within the City Council, and has a number of Councillors serving on the board of Trustees; but it is entirely separate from and outside the control of the local authority, and receives no direct financial support from the Council. Any donations will be used to help volunteer groups assist in helping the most needy in our local community.
The Lord Mayor attends community events in her capacity as First Citizen of Westminster and is, naturally, happy to do so as an important part of her mayoral duties.
Some organisations ask whether they can present the Lord Mayor with a gift to mark her attendance. If you were minded to do this, then the Lord Mayor would encourage you instead to make a donation to one of her chosen charities. Cheques should be made payable to the charity of your choice (LM’s Appeal) and forwarded to the particular charity direct.
