City of Westminster

Westminster's strategy for IT

Westminster aspires to be the best of the best, a global leader in city management, and during the 2012 Olympics, the eyes of the world will be upon us. Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) have a critical and expanding role in enabling the City Council's ambition. A corporate ICT strategy has been developed setting out a fresh and visionary approach to the provision of ICT services, not just for the City Council but in partnership with others to achieve successful service delivery both for Westminster and as part of London. It defines:

  • Westminster's requirement for ICT services for the next 4 years;
  • Proposed changes to the ICT delivery model including introduction of the concept of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO);
  • How we will reach our ambition to be infrastructure free;
  • A customer centric approach to public facing services using converged technologies;
  • A roadmap for delivery, backed by a medium term financial plan aligned with growth, invest to save and efficiency over the term.

The IT Strategy for Schools aligns with the Westminster ICT Strategy 2008 – 2012 and the proposed outcomes and delivery plan are in line with government and local authority priorities and budgetary requirements.
