Children, Young People and Community Protection
The Policy and Scrutiny Committee specifically scrutinises work covered under the remit of the Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Community Protection. Key policy areas and programmes include:
- Young people's services including the Youth Service, Connexions and sports development
- Children's social services including Looked After Children and care leavers
- Schools and education
- Children's Centres and Extended Schools
- Children's health and commissioning
- Parenting
- Child poverty
- Proposals for the sharing of children's services with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham
- Family Recovery
- Community Protection (includes domestic violence, youth offending, Safer Westminster Partnership)
The Committee has also established the Young People's Scrutiny Panel which is giving twenty young people aged 15-18 from across Westminster the opportunity to investigate issues that matter to them. Currently the group is looking at youth anti-social behaviour and how to promote a more positive image of young people.
