Civil partnerships

A civil partnership is a relationship between two people of the same sex, formed when they register as civil partners of each other. You can form a civil partnership in any register office or at any approved venue of your choice in England or Wales.

We will guide you through some of the procedures you will need to follow including:

• Setting the date for a civil partnership.
• Giving notice of intention to form a civil partnership.
• Personalising your ceremony.
• Please note that you cannot have two legal ceremonies, this now constitutes a legal impediment. Any further ceremony or blessing must take place after the civil ceremony and must be separate. If you have any queries in regard to this please contact the Register office team immediately.
