Frequently asked questions and answers for Moxon Street

Moxon Street
What has happened so far?

Over the past few months, Westminster City Council have been engaging with the local community regarding the proposed development of the Moxon Street car park site.

Westminster City Council is looking at the development potential of the site as a whole, and has held a series of 17 consultation meetings with local residents, businesses and key stakeholders to gauge opinion on the best use for the site. Our appointed architect, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios have now made recommendations to the Council regarding suitable development options for the site with regard to the Moxon Street Car Park Planning Brief.

To read the Planning Brief, please click here. These options have been presented to the Cabinet Member for Finance and Support Services, Councillor Melvyn Caplan for consideration.

What are the architect's findings?

The architect has found that:

  • the whole site can be developed as a coherent unit even if it is constructed in phases
  • the site can accommodate a number of the uses permitted in the Planning Brief, including community facilities, residential and retail units, open space and an Adult Education facility
  • any education use would be best located at the southern end of the site
  • there are a variety of viable options for developing the northern end of the site that are not impacted by the use of the southern end of the site for an adult education facility
  • the farmer's market has the ability to become a street market in close proximity to its current location if it is ultimately decided that it be located off site.
What happens next

The City Council will now work to determine what the best use for the Moxon Street site will be, taking into account the feedback we have received from the community and key stakeholders, the architect's professional recommendations, the guidelines of the Planning Brief, the variety of services that are required to fulfil local needs and the best use of taxpayer's money.
