Council Policies

Equality and Diversity
City of Westminster is committed to making sure that it provides equality of opportunity through employment and service delivery. This commitment has been reflected by the Council adopting equality of opportunity as one of its core values. At Westminster we encourage a diverse range of suppliers to compete for our contracts. We want to ensure all businesses have an equal opportunity to compete for contracts, including Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs), black and minority ethnic businesses and voluntary and community organisations. We are committed to eliminating discrimination and promoting equality on the grounds of:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Faith/ religion or belief
  • Gender, including transgender
  • Race or ethnic or national origin
  • Sexual orientation

Westminster City Council requires that all its contractors, or sub-contractors of that main contractor, must comply with all equality legislation, including:

  • Equalities Act (2006)
  • Race Relations Amendment Act (2000)
  • Disability Discrimination Act (2005)
  • Human Rights Act (1998)
  • Employment Act (2002)

Health and Safety
When expressing an interest to tender you will normally be asked for details of your Health and Safety policies and procedures. You must also submit a copy of your Health and Safety Policy as required by Section 2 (3) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any codes of safe work practices issued to employees.

Additional questions concerning Construction Design and Management Regulations (1994) may also be asked by the Council where appropriate.

Health and Safety practices will be keenly monitored by Westminster City Council during the life of a contract. Breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other examples of poor practice will be considered as grounds for termination of a contract.
