Preparations for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Builders’ Activities and Cranes - Update on Preparations for the Olympic Games 2012

With the Games fast approaching we are finalising plans for managing an unprecedented numbers of events and visitors in the City and the associated high level usage of the road network.

What are the restrictions to working in Central London?
Disruptions will be apparent from 1 March 2012 when the Olympic Road Network (ORN) restrictions commence, and from 1 July this will extend to the Central London Zone (CLZ) and other designated sensitive routes, finishing in September with the conclusion of the Paralympics. Useful information on the restrictions to be applied across London and advice on travel hotspots and security is available on the following websites:

We have defined our Restricted Roads in Westminster. In addition to the ORN and CLZ these include areas around major interchange stations, Olympic competition venues, tourist hot spots and cultural and entertainment hubs.  The Street Look Up Table on this website http://Transact.westminster.gov.uk/OlympicStreets/ shows all Restricted Roads and the restrictions that apply across a range of construction activities from now on.

The Council’s approach is to balance public safety and the smooth running of the Games with minimal disruption to construction, allowing sites to continue operating in Westminster unless they are likely to pose problems in the more congested locations. If your site is on or near one of these roads then it is more likely that some limitations will be necessary.

Please follow the Builders' Activities or Cranes link for further information on their respective restrictions in preparation for and during the Games:
