Temporary structure and skip licences

If you intend to carry out building activity which might affect members of the public or the public highway (public roads or pavements), you will need a licence for that activity.  For example:

  • placing a skip on a public road
  • erecting any kind of temporary scaffolding/fencing/hoarding around a building site ("temporary structure")
  • vehicles delivering materials that need to cross a footway to reach the site
  • excavating any part of a public road or pavement to access repairs to vaults or pavement lights, or to dig trial holes

Important Information: London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

In the summer of 2012 Westminster will be significantly affected as several competition venues will be located in the City.   Please click here to read more about how the Olympics will affect Temporary Structure Licences.
