West End LIVE brings the best of London’s entertainment to Trafalgar Square

More than 20 world class shows are set to take to the stage in Trafalgar Square on the 18th and 19th June for the seventh West End LIVE.

This annual free entertainment festival is presented by Westminster City Council in partnership with the Society of London Theatre, and this year it will be staged in association with MasterCard as part of their ongoing support for London Theatre.

Convicted Offenders put to work across Westminster Council

Convicted offenders are working across Westminster to help clean up the city while at the same time paying their debt back to society.

The move follows a successful project at Hyde Park Corner where offenders gave the subway a deep-clean to prepare it for the thousands of visitors arriving by tube for the Royal Wedding, and just as importantly for all the residents and visitors who use the subways day-in, day-out.

New Lord Mayor appointed at Westminster

Westminster City Council has elected Councillor Susie Burbridge to be the new Lord Mayor of Westminster.

Councillor Burbridge, who was elected at Wednesday evening's annual council meeting (18 May), has been a member of the council for 13 years, representing the Lancaster Gate ward.

Westminster meets with soup run providers to seek solution

Westminster Council has met with soup run providers to seek a solution over their distribution of free food in and around Westminster Cathedral.

At a meeting on Saturday (May 20), discussions were held on how the council can work with soup run providers to help to find ways in which volunteers can give their time to help the homeless.

The government should cut councils free of Whitehall control as part of a radical shake-up of local government finance, a major report commissioned by representatives of Britain’s biggest cities urges today (Monday, May 23rd).

An investigation by the City Finance Commission, chaired by Sir Stuart Lipton, one of Britain’s most respected property developers, calls on the government to ‘break out of its control zone' and give councils a much greater say over how they are funded.
