Westminster City Council is offering families an opportunity to have fun across the generations with a series of free family fun days at Westminster's Boating Base in August.

Kayaking, sailing and canoeing are just some of the river-based sports available, while young people looking for something away from the water can take part in cricket, football, rounders and table tennis sessions in Pimlico Gardens.

Residents turn antisocial behaviour spot into thriving allotment

Green-fingered residents on a Westminster housing estate have transformed a communal area that once suffered from anti-social behaviour into a thriving allotment growing everything from chillies and aubergines to marrows and pumpkins.

After five months of hard work, the group of 30 residents from the Church Street estate off Edgware Road have revamped the disused 300sq metre space and filled it with more than 40 varieties of vegetables and herbs.

Westminster's parks are the best in the capital

Westminster has the cleanest, safest and best maintained parks in London, it was confirmed today (Monday 20 July).

The borough has been awarded a record 18 Green Flags - up from 13 last year and more than any other local authority in the capital - despite being one of the busiest and most densely populated areas in the UK.
