The proposed orders fall under four categories:
It will be an offence for any person in charge of a dog, which defecates on any land not to remove the faeces. This order will apply city-wide. Please click here to see the order.
The following three orders will be applied initially within two areas - the Queens Park ward and Churchill Gardens estate:
It will be an offence to take a dog into the designated area unless it is kept on a lead. This order applies to all public, pedestrian and estate roads, pavements and footpaths in the designated area. Please click here to see the order and maps Queens Park and Churchill Gardens estate.
This order will require people in the designated area to put and keep a dog on a lead when told to do so by an authorised officer.
This order will prohibit people from taking dogs into designated areas, such as children’s playgrounds, sports pitch and specialist gardens.
Queens Park ward and Churchill Gardens estate within Churchill ward are two areas chosen for the trial scheme, which will be subject to a six week consultation before the orders become active. The main effect of the new trial in these areas will be to require owners to keep their dogs on a lead and also when directed to do so, prohibit people from taking dogs into designated areas.
Westminster City Council proposes these Dog Control Orders in direct response to requests from residents fed up of animals being allowed to run wild and foul their pavements and precious open spaces. These proposals are not about penalising responsible dog owners but simply promoting responsible dog ownership. The Council is keen to hear your views.
Thank you for all your responses, consultation for the dog control orders has now closed. We are now in the process of collating all the responses to the consultation and results from surveys undertaken with residents. Once this has been completed this information will be presented to the relevant cabinet members to decide on whether the proposed dog control orders will be implemented.
