City Guardian Mobile Team

The City Guardian Mobile Team works in partnership with the CDRT Police Team across the whole of Westminster. The team consists of a Team Leader and a number of City Guardians who work a flexible shift pattern. Their work feeds into the CivicWatch process that is used to resolve local issues affecting communities in Westminster. The members of the team react to specific identified issues and hotspots that are outside the areas covered by the existing City Guardian provision.

Members of the mobile team are recruited from experienced, high performing City Guardians. They share an office at Council House in Marylebone with a City Inspector enforcement team. From this base the team is deployed either as a unit or in smaller detachments seven days a week, with flexible working patterns.

As well as supporting the CivicWatch process the City Guardian Mobile Team links in with local police 302 (problem solving) priorities, and other local strategic initiatives. Regular deployments are made at special events including the Notting Hill Carnival, New Year's Eve celebrations, and the National Play Day in Regent's Park.

Regular projects
Each City Guardian within the mobile team takes personal responsibility for a project that aims to improve the quality of life of residents within the area. These projects include:

Graffiti - Joao has developed an educational project which incorporates a leaflet, informing members of the public how to report graffiti and prevent it taking place. He also gives a presentation to young people explaining the impact of vandalism on the community.

Schools - Rose delivers talks on anti-social behaviour and crime prevention advice to schools and youth clubs in the areas in which the team is deployed.

Parking - Shamruel liaises with parking services, identifying prolific parking fine evaders. He also provides support for parking attendants whilst deployed in their areas.

Rough Sleepers - Kim is the link officer for the homeless services for the team. She routinely signposts rough sleepers to Building Based Services.

Businesses - Gerhard ensures that all businesses are contacted in the area in which the team are deployed. He identifies trends in the area and passes the information on to partner agencies.

Street Licensing Enforcement Team - Rob is the link officer with the street licensing enforcement team. He ensures that all information gathered in the deployed area is passed on to the team for enforcement.

Street Environment - Bill is the link officer with the Street Environment Managers. He passes on all relevant details about businesses and residents dumping illegally.

Drug Issues - Alan takes the lead on all drug related issues and routinely signposts drug users to partner agencies, for the purpose of them seeking help for their addiction.
